Departing the Valley, we headed for Tunnel View to shoot the stars over Yosemite's iconic monuments. Had I not been gazing from the passenger window, we would have missed this rare opportunity. "Guys, check it out! Find a pull out! Go!" The four of us spilled out of the truck and sprinted into an open field, navigating ruts between mounds of snow-covered grass. At first, I was too close and made several vertical exposures to later stitch into a massive landscape print. However, moving west opened up the scene, lowered the trees, and filled the frame with a massive 3,000 foot block of 100 million-year-old granite.
